I think girls like it when, after showing her that her new DirectTV does in fact pick up sports, you spend a holiday Monday relaxing and watching the silly Wedding shows on WE. They had some sort of marathon of these ridiculous brides and their million dollar weddings. More on that later. It was fun.

I love DVR's. I want one. I used Vicki's to record the Indy 500 Sunday while we went tubing down the Chipola (again, whole other story for another day) and when we (finally) got home, I totally watched it in 20 min.

Ok, our pick this week is another band I only liked about 3 songs from before and tried this record and love it all the way through. I only checked it out because again it was a band I sort of liked, but also because Stipe did a duet on one of the songs. I think I ended up using one of the iTunes gift cards I got from Allison (you guys should also check out the Amazon.com download service, if you pay for your music. Sometimes it's a little cheaper, but it also is DRM free, which means you can play it on any device and not just with Itunes and iPod. Just a thought).

I loved this record from the first time I listened to it. I highly recommend it and I'm sure I've given this song to a few of you recently. I think it reflects at least one (if not more) of the relationships we've all had ( and I might actually be that one). I think it's mostly open to interpretation. The video can get weird and it explores more of the, um, chemical side of things, but either way.

It's a great song and as I said, the album is amazing too. They do a beautiful cover of Kate Bush's "Running up that Hill" that isn't all that much different than the original, but it some ways surpasses it.

They're English, so you'll have to forgive the man-panties.

From London, England:

Placebo - "Meds":

Bonus Tracks:

Oh, hell with it. I'll just show you. Here's the Kate Bush Original if you want to compare.

Placebo - "Running up that Hill":

I Miss the 90's:

It wasn't always LoudQuietloud and screaming about drugs. Sometimes, it was loud with a groove and screaming about creepy parents. Love this song. I really do miss the 90's.

Jawbox - "Savory":

If you didn't see it, the season finale of House was great. Very emotional story line involving House getting into a bus accident and his best friends girlfriend being on the bus. In the end Wilson's girlfriend dies from her injuries, she was on the bus after House called Wilson's house for a ride home from the bar, so House feels guilty about her dying and all that. They wake her up from her induced coma so they can say good-bye.

Long story short the ending was very good, powerful emotional stuff. The final scene being Wilson going home and finding the note she left him saying she wouldn't be there when he got home since she went to pick up House. Again, very good and not cheeseball. So, do you think we'd get a moment to take it all in. NO. It's Fox, so hell no. Almost immediately we get a very loud, "AMERICAN IDOL FINALE. DAVID VS. DAVID IN SUCKFEST 2008! COME GET SOME!

Seriously, WTF? Thanks alot, Dickheads.

So, our pick this week is a little weird. My Top 40, Hot 104.9, DJ Laz listening girlfriend actually mentioned she liked this song. I think it came up because I've been listening to this record again. It's fun and was different at the time. It has a bit of a danc-y techno feel to some of it, which I don't normally like or didn't at the time, but something about this record drew me in.

And yes, I know, she wore a friggin giant Swan outfit onstage, but think about the worst thing you've ever worn in public and laugh all you want, but she's has an outlet for it.

Ok, so from Iceland, by way of friggin' Jupiter:

Bjork - "It's oh so quiet":

I miss the 90's:

This is the video that got me thinking about doing this segment. The singer is the cute, artsy type I used to go for. (and by "go for" I mean, stare at, admire, but never, EVER talk to.) I need to get this record. I have the first one, but not this one for some reason, which is weird. I think my roommate had it, so I never got it. Whatever, you guys don't care.

Velocity Girl - "Sorry Again":

Here's a video someone made for R.E.M.'s "Leave". It's pretty good actually. Interesting anyway.

And yes, I completely mailed this week in. Sorry.

I think they're finally getting it. Before releasing their last album, "In Rainbows" (brilliant I might add), Radiohead offered it as a download on a pay what you want platform. The quality of the download was based on the level you paid, higher bit rate for higher cost, but still far cheaper than a CD. Most people did the free download and when the CD came, it still sold well.

Earlier this month, Nine Inch Nails up the ante. They offered a whole new album on line..for free. Full CD quality (and one offer of higher than CD quality, but unless you're using high end equipment, that's useless) in several different formats. Here's the story on it on RollingStone.com I got a copy and it's really good.

I guess it was offered as a thank you to fans from an artist who has been trying to get rid of his record label and with the Internet he finally can. Obviously, they won't all be free, but he did have an instrumental album he put out earlier that was offered for $5. Why not? He has no middle man. (If you had spent $5, for say a shitty Alicia Keys album, you wouldn't feel so bad). Anyways, it's good and it's not just an album of old, unused tracks. And it was free, so really, if it sucked, how much bitching could you really do?

I mention this because it's our pick this week..sort of. No real videos for any of the new songs, but it does lead us into a new segment I want to toy with. I think I am going to replace the random pick with a segment I will call "I miss the 90's". I do. It's when I peaked. From 1989 through say 1998.

I was looking for something on You tube and found a song I hadn't heard in forever and that led to another and another, etc. Bunch of songs I hadn't heard in a while and missed. Like reconnecting with an old friend.

The Nine Inch Nails connection is this: Pretty hate machine was one of those records that reminds me of that time. My friend Nathan lived around the corner from me and during the summer between our Freshman and Sophomore year, I think, we would hang out in his front yard and listen to that tape over and over. So, since I wanted to tell you about the free album it seemed like a natural connection. Whatever.

This video isn't from the new album like I said, but is from the record "With Teeth". The lyrics are based on Fight Club (a book I used to own....ahem) and the video is directed by the director of the movie. I mentioned seeing this video for the first time here.

So, from Cleveland, OH (oh, that's right bitches):

Nine Inch Nails - "Only":

I Miss the 90's:

Two events happened to me early in this period:

My Freshman year, I didn't really have a musical direction. When I was younger, my older brother and cousins and MTV got me into the Beastie Boys and Run DMC and the early 80's rap , but by 7th or 8th grade, that wasn't plausable anymore since the rap coming out then wasn't the same and I didn't like it. So, I floated around, got into some Metal and hard rock like Tesla and Guns and Roses with my cousin (he gave me my first Metallica tape). None of it really moved me. Then, I heard R.E.M.'s Eponymous album. The tape was cued to "Driver 8" and something about it made me feel good. I think it was the combination of the melody and his voice. I listened to it 4 times in a row (and with a cassette, you know how hard that is.). It's still one of my favorite songs ever.

R.E.M. "Driver 8":

Then one day, driving to school, I heard this song...and nothing was ever the same again:

Hey everybody! It's KG's birthday! Happy birthday to you, our favorite girl in Atlanta. (also to Soapy who turned six yesterday.) And don't worry, it only gets better. Our bonus tracks today are for you.

Ok, little aside before we start. Dierks Bentley released a greatest hits today and it reminded me of how much fun country music can be. it really is just pop music in boots. this guy (and I'm not putting him down, I'm sure he's fun to dance to in a bar or whatever) has put out three records in 5 years and now he has a greatest hits. Those 3 records have a total of 35 songs on them, the Greatest hits, compiled from those 3 records: 18 songs. Ok, 16, since I think 2 are new songs. Either way, that's a lot. That's almost half of his catalog.

So basically, they're indirectly acknowledging the fact that it's almost a waste to buy 95% of country albums. They're 3-5 good songs surrounded by filler. There are exceptions, but for the most part. Think about it. Take out some of your country albums that have been out for a while and count up the number of songs you really like that weren't on the radio. Bet it's not very many, or in Dierks case: Half. So, save some money and buy the Greatest hits when it comes out. Which will be like every 4 albums. (Look how many Faith's husband has.)

Ok, enough of that, it's KG's birthday! Let's get to it!

Our pick this week is a band that I just found with their new record that came out last week, but apparently their first record was the TV soundtrack king of 2006. This song was featured in like 10 shows that year, which is ok because that's what you have to do to get your songs heard anymore.

This song appeared in an episode of Grey's during Season 2 (for those of you who still watch that show). It was used in the second part of that one with Cristina Ricchi. I don't know, that show sucks. I'm sorry, I'll catch hell when I get home, but can't be helped.

It's a good song, no matter how many, terrible, overrated shows it' s been used on.

From Cambridge (anything past I-95 is the faching sticks), MA:

The Weepies - "World spins madly on":

Bonus tracks (30 is the new 29 Edition):

South Gwinnett in the house! (Gwinnett arena to be exact):

(And seriously, male and females who want to do a duet: learn a new song.)

The Roxy theater:
