NMT 111

Our pick this week is some fine, out of town vagina rock.

It's late, so we'll keep it simple.

These girls are twins and remind a little of Ani Difranco. If Ani Difranco were a twin, still 26, Canadian and, you know, gay(er). It's some good time folk rocking done the way nature intended: by a pair of lesbians

So, from Calgary, Alberta, Canada:

Tegan and Sara - "My Number":

Bonus Tracks:

IS there a song this boy won't sing? (he does have a live record coming out with a nice version of this)"

Top 40 totally dissed Amanda's girl today, by saying all of her songs sounded alike. It is reportedly on. Whatever, hot, brunette Canadian girl: sold.

Seattle

Ok, I have posted the Seattle pictures as ordered. Don't know why you people were surprised, it's not like my laziness and lack of effort is a surprise.

They are labeled "Part 1" because apparently I can only upload so much per month, but most of the stuff is pictures of the same things (two cameras). A part II may or may not come.

Here is the link to the first photo. My suggestion is you click on the little slideshow button on the right, hit options and select slow, otherwise they go by too quickly and make sure you hit "show info" so you can see my pithy and fun comments for each picture. Helps tell the story.

Enjoy. (and stop yelling at me now.)

NMT 110

Our pick this week comes to us from another country. No, not Texas, an actual other country, not just some patch of dirt that wants to be its own country, but doesn't actually have the balls to go through with it. I mean, another country people actually want to visit.

The band seems to be one of those ecclectic bands, with a core of five of six people and then anyone else who happens to drop by that day and bring their kazoo. I did read that they had a song on the FIFA 08 game, so I'm sure KG is quite familiar with them (she's into the sports games, whilst LRHG is more in to the Halo type stuff, which she plays till her boyfriend gets irritated).

This song seems quite fun and jaunty, plus the video has nuns in stockings and bocce ball, which is to say: it has everything.

So, from Melbourne, Australia:

The Cat Empire - "So Many Nights":

Bonus Tracks:

Well, I guess pretty boy is back. So, sit back and grab a nice cup of coffee in a giant mug that keeps it warm forever and enjoy.

NMT 109

What time is it?

Our pick this week is a song we heard while walking around the gift shop at the Experience Music Project in Seattle (a very cool place and not just because I got to play the drums). I have heard of this band, but hadn't really checked them out (there's a theme with all of these isn't there). They do have a distinction for anyone who has read the great, unfinished Richard Short story (no, the other one). I just liked the name and it sounded like a band the character would go see.

Anyway,s we heard this on the gift shop tv's and I kept checking it out as I was looking at stuff and kept waiting to see if it would say who they were and alas. This song sounds like it's a left over from a really kick-ass, but not well known band from the 80's underground. Plus, it's got a great title.

So, from New York City:

Interpol - "No I in Threesome":

Bonus Tracks:

Another song from the Pete Yorn and Scarlette Johansson album. this is currently my favorite song from the album.

"Blackie's Dead":

It's "In a corner Garden/wilder lower wolves". Which probably means something to somebody.

Backwards

Why am I up and moving for vacation, 4 hours before I would even be getting out of bed for work?

Whatever, going to Seattle, totally worth it.

NMT 108

I think the most himbiling game is the world is: Scrabble.

OUr pick this week is a dirivative of a very influential band. I guess over the last few years there had been some drama between the bass player and the other two. During interviews, he would say that the band was over, etc. Well, apparently, it was just over with him. The GUitar player and drummer continued on with the bass player from Blur ( I think ) and two other guys along the way.

It doesn't sound a lot like their old band, perhaps closer to the very early stuff, but it is good and catchy. A comparison I read was a cross between the Technique and Brotherhood albums. But you probably would have figured that out on your own.

So, from Manchester, England:

Bad Lieutenant (Bernard and Stephen from New Order) - "Sink or Swim":

Bonus Tracks:

Speaking of which:

These are some nice boys. I'm sure one day they'll find the right girls and settle down.
