NMT 89

Just a quick update; that's Boo-ya (x2. Well, x1.5 by someones math, but that's not my fault).

Our pick this week is a combo. I was filling up Hannah's new iPod and I was reminded of a bootleg she had way back when, where the singer explained that these three songs (two from their debut record and one that was a B-side), all went together as one story. I think the show was recorded in Holland, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I'm going to attempt to relay the story as it goes with each song. (This will either be cool or the lamest thing ever).

So from Seattle, WA:

The story starts with a boy's mother telling him his real father is dead and the man he thought was his father was nothing, but a... Too add to this wonderful moment, the boy looks so much like his real father, that the mother hints at wanting to, well she had that look, you know where...

Pearl Jam - "Alive":

(Dang, them some sexy forearms)

SO, now the boy is all kinds of freaked out, like he's got a bomb in his temple and it's gonna explode. He buries his 16 gauge under his clothes and (presumably) goes on an 8 state killing spree. Or some such.

"Once":

And now, after being caught and sent to rot in his jail cell, he writes one last letter....

"Footsteps":

I Miss the 90's:

That was all one big missing the 90's moment, but just to lighten the mood a little.

Today is Mormon Girl's birthday. Say it to her. She's not 30. Yet.

Happy Birthday.

I hit a squirrel on my way to work this morning. I feel kinda of bad about that. He did run out in front of me, so it wasn't my fault. But, in the Great Squirrel Hunt of 2009 it's: Richard 1, Bowden 0. Get some.

Our pick this week is someone I know nothing about. I just saw a small write up about her in the new Rolling Stone and figured we'd give her a try. She's a lot cuter in this video than she is in the picture from the magazine (she's got some weird, short perm thing in the photo). Anyway, she seems a little weird, but aren't we all. It said she has some guitar skills and I think you can see that on this.

So, from Tulsa, Oklahoma:

St. Vincent - "Your Lips are Red":

Bonus Tracks:

LRHG is leaving for this place next Friday. She's already stressing out about what to pack. Girls.

The Smiths - "London":

This is the band that will be opening for U2 on their tour. You know U2; the band most of will never get to see live because we can't afford the $700 tickets all the scalpers (legal or not) will ask. Not that you won't get your money's worth, but that doesn't make me $700 richer.

Muse - "Knights of Cydonia":

Reality

At my Publix sometimes, there is an old, grey haired black gentleman who walks around (well, shuffles more like, seeing as how he's old) the store belting out old blues and spiritual songs. Just singing out loud in his booming, raspy voice. Does this through the whole store and you can hear him wherever you are. It's somehow, eerily awesome. At the very least it drowns out the Collective soul/David Cook crap they play over the speakers. He never bothers anyone, never corners anyone, just walks around. Singing. Not even sure if he buys anything, but doesn't matter.

I went there today to grab something for lunch and he was there. While picking a line that wouldn't take me all friggin' day to get through, I passed a girl in line talking to the women in front of her. She was laughing and making a comment about the guy.

Now, she was cute and all: hair proper color (not blonde) and length (above shoulders), but I'm so sure she was in a position to be giggling at someone for possibly embarrassing themselves in public. You know, at least not when she was 30 (at least) and her skirt barely reached the middle of her thigh. Seriously. I wear shorts that are longer. KG's bathing suit covers more leg.

After 28, you got to let it go honey. Otherwise, we can all see the desperation.

NMT 87

Our pick this week is a band I didn't like at one time. In my younger angry(ier) days, I kind of passed them off. As I have gotten older I have realized I was all wrong. This is one of the best bands to come along and they've influenced just about every band that's come since. I think my initial rejection or whatever came from my friend Nathan playing their Combat Rock album over and over whenever we would go somewhere and then only the big hit. Got old quickly.

In recent years I've come around. Plus, it seemed unnatural for me to not like the band whose shirt appears in almost every John Cusak movie.

Also, for you readers (Top 40-KG), there's is a great biography about the lead singer called Redemption Song: The Ballad of Joe Strummer, that I highly recommend.

So, from London, England:

The Clash - "London Calling":

Bonus Tracks:

If you weren't there, you missed a great show. Enter the Haggis was great and we all down the House specialty beer "We're out of that". We were right on the stage 2 feet from the bagpipe player and directly in front of the smelliest man alive. I mean, the kid of funk that just smacks you in the face. James Brown called from the grave and said, "Damn, that's funky". The band was fun anyways and we learned that the guitar player is "super cute" (Top 40) and that the bass player is cute, but was cuter when his "Whi-fro" was bigger (Amanda).

Enter the Haggis - The litter and the leaves":

I Miss the 90's:

I had to get dumped and move back to Orlando from Tallahassee to get this record back from Amanda. But, not before she and I watched her implode on the VMA's.

More than 29

It's KG's birthday bitches. Say it to her or God will smite you. And you don't want that. I don't think. She needs no gifts, she knows me and that's all the gift she needs.

Happy birthday.

WWEAD?

Not true

The comment was made: "Boys are totally useless when there are sports on TV."

That is so not tr-Oh holy crap, that shot almost went in. Wicked hard slap shaut!

What? Oh yeah, Totally not true and mean sp-oh man, that guy just got rocked in to the boards.

Huh? Oh, um, boobs...? Whatever.

Slack

V.C. Andrews has been dead for 22 years and still writes and finishes more things then I do.

OK, slackers, this weekend, Saturday May 9th Enter the Haggis is playing here in town. So if you're in the area (and chances are you won't be. Shithole.) you should come out. Good time band and Amanda thinks the lead singer is cute. I think it's just how how handles his fiddle. So, come and watch Amanda party hard and stay up past 9pm. Wicked Pissah!

Our pick this week is new and an ACL act. If only we all had a connection near the Austin City Limits Festival. Alas. Maybe we'll all catch the big Manchvegas City Limits festival.

This is on sale for $3.99 on Amazon and I was going to pass and then I listened to this song and decided to buy it. Just now, so I haven't heard it all, but I still have $42 left on my credit there, so it's cool (thank you Discover Card).

I do like this song. It's a bit heavier than his previous efforts, but that's his thing with this new band. I do remember the fun of working at the store (54evah bitch!) and his first record would be playing and the song "Mama's got a girlfriend now" would come on. Good times.

Oh and he's married to Laura Dern and close friends with Jack Johnson and Eddie Vedder, but then again, aren't we all.

From Clermont, California:

Ben Harper and the Relentless7 - "Shimmer and Shine":

Bonus Tracks:

Was looking for something else, but we'll save that for later. This is part of a series I guess on Bruce Springsteen's Youtube channel called "Hanging out on E Street". It's various covers by newer artists. I picked this one because I always thought this song was a little weak, but hearing it stripped down I realize it's pretty good. Just suffers from 80's pop production perhaps. Plus, I've always had an indie crush on her.

Juliana Hatfield - "Cover me":

I Miss the 90's:

Actually, added this to my iPod the other day. Totally forgot about it, which is a shame. I think this song might work a little at the original, slower tempo, but this works too. This song even made the Stone Heart tear up when she saw them live. I know, shocking right.

Toad the Wet Sprocket - "Crowing":
