NMT 106

Oh for Christmas sake: it's PICK-TURE. PICK-TURE! A pitcher is someone who starts the play in a baseball game or what Mormon Girl uses to drink her Southpaw from. A little more effort people.

Our pick this week is a bit of a surprise. It's a duet between a singer and an (beautiful) actress. Wasn't sure how this was going to work since she put an album of Tom Waits covers out earlier in the year and it didn't go over so well. This album was recorded before that and is quite good.

The singer opened for R.E.M. when we saw them in Atlanta on their greatest hits tour in 2003 (or so). I like him and I think that helps here.

The idea for the album came from a dream he had and is in the style of the Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot albums from the late 60's (or so I'm told). It seems to be a couple telling the story of their relationship together. As far as i can tell. Either way, it's really good.

So, from Montville, NJ and NYC:

Pete Yorn and Scarlett Johansson - "Relator":

Bonus Tracks:

What would an All-Star NMT band look like? Well, let's see: Get Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes), some other dude from his band and M. Ward (She & Him) and throw them together. You could call it:

Monsters of Folk - "The Right Place":

I Miss the 90's:

Going to Seattle. Where "humidity" is something only losers put up with. Sure, we're unwashed misanthropes whose lead singer has a smack problem that will eventually kill him, but that doesn't mean we won't do a little something to help the kids. We're not that different from KG's boyfriend, Bill-O (except for that not being egocentric douchebags part). We love the folks.
