Rock and Roll is not dead. In fact, it is very much alive and for now, it's name is My Morning Jacket. You all missed a great show. Even Top 40 loved it.
"I like this one. She gives it right back" - Shut up Mom!
Ok, our pick this week is from a suggestion from KG, so if it sucks, yell at her. I think I saw something on these guys once, looked them up and then forgot about it. Not for any bad reasons, just wasn't Tuesday so I forgot. I do that see. KG sent me a list last week of stuff she found from somewhere else. Anyway, they're fun and have a bit of a Strokes/Hate Bombs feel, but slightly more of a polish to it. Just a smidge. It's danceable, so get to it. Naked if you must, why should Mormon Girl be the only one.
From New York City, NY:
The Walkmen - "The Rat":
Bonus Tracks:
These guys were amazing live. The kind of band that if you didn't know anything about them and happened to see them, you would enjoy it. This song is on their latest album, "Evil Urges" and when I listened to the record the first time, I was at work and this song came on and I stopped what i was doing, started it over and listened to it twice. It's beautiful and has a great line, "When God gave us mirrors/he had no idea"
My Morning Jacket - "Librarian":
One of Top 40's favoritist songs evah:
I Miss the 90's:
I love an artist that will try new things and evolve. When they take chances. I like this girl a lot. She's very powerful, she's an amazing musician and isn't afraid to change things. If you listen to her records, they all sound different. Not radically, but there's enough of a difference that you can tell which era and album it is from (the first two may be an exception, but they were recorded very close together). She's was known for her guitar work on her first two records, then went away from the guitar work on the third, went back and then on her last album, she played only piano-and she never played piano before. That's taking a risk and trying something new. You could just put out the same tried and true formula, but there's no fun in that. Doesn't work for everyone and that's ok. This performance is of a song from her second record and I love when she ends the song. She just has this look of confidence, like I just had 40k people eating out of my hand and I'm awesome. Plus she looks really good in this clip.
PJ Harvey - "Rid of Me":

Sheesh, why ya always gotta blame everything on me? You could have just said a little bird recommended it to you.
I should preface my suggestion of The Walkmen by saying, while the song isn't my favorite - these dudes appear to be pretty darn good looking, so that was a plus for them. Also, I did tell you that the site I found them from said this band is MUCH better live, kinda heavy metal-ish. I think I'd like to see them live.
My Morning Jacket - this actually is a great song. See, had I had some fellow music afficionados (sp) up here that were up for checking them out, I would have so gone to their show. But alas, my friends here suck and no one wants to go out so I didn't make it. Too bad but they are on my "to see" list for sure.
The others - good. Never heard the Will Smith song. PJ Harvey - haven't heard that name in a long time and I'm not certain but Atlanta used to have a Big Day Out show which is where that video is from, wonder if it's from the Atown.
Good job!
