NMT 39

OK, do I know any girls who don't know all the words to friggin' Grease?

Our pick this week was the pick for NMT 13 (the Glorious Downer Express edition). That week they were picked for their rendition of the song their lead singer did for the I'm not There movie.

Their new record came out today and as I haven't heard any of their other records, the comments I have read indicate that it's a sort of departure from the older stuff. This, of course, has totally pissed off all of their little fans who just need to deal.

Good bands change and try new stuff. R.E.M. didn't make Murmur or Automatic for the People or "Losing my Religion" 14 times. U2 didn't make The Joshua Tree over and over. (I have a whole rant on this, but I'll spare you) You have to grow and expand. Doesn't always work, but great works aren't always safe. That's for pussies like Matchbox 20 and Daughtry (who I was told is HOT! WTF?!)

Anyways, this song seems good and I may go out and pick this record up tonite.

So from Louisville, KY (I looked it up this time):

My Morning Jacket - "I'm Amazed":

Bonus Tracks:

Our dear friend Lynn has had to make a tough choice recently. She took a higher paying job that, ultimitly didn't work out. The pay was good, but the stress and strain weren't worth it. (you can read all about it on her blog) I think she made the right decision. Happiness and stress free living are more important than money. She has many talents and will land on her feet (If you live in the Orlando area and need a theruputic massage and/or need a website designed, she's your girl). So, we'll pick something to make her happy. (Hopefully, I'm kind of guessing)

The The - "Uncertain Smile":

Pet Shop Boys - "Opportunities":

I miss the 90's:

It's the early 90's. I'm 18 years old. Living in the middle of nowhere with some friends. We have no cable TV and we work retail, so we have no time for it anyway. We mostly sit around the living room till all hours writing (mostly bad) poetry, listening to literally hundreds of records (two of us worked in record stores) and discussing how this record, from beginning to end, was one of the greatest things we'd ever heard. It was a very formative time.

Pearl Jam - "Go":

great tunes this week

Lynn, I don't know you but stress is a nasty beast and I can tell you from experience, there's no job in hell worth a high level of stress (unless you thrive in that kind of environment) so good for you for making your "gut move" and getting out. You'll find something, I'm sure.

it's the early 90s. i'm 19 years old and i work retail: record store of course. i live with my parents except for the times when i'm sleeping... well... somewhere else. i'm driving and listening to the radio because my car sucks and i don't have a cd player and the tape deck didn't work when i inherited the car. i hear on rock 101 that eddie vedder got married. i am crushed because it's that he married someone else that's the reason that i'll never be with him. no other reason, just that now he's taken. sigh. good times.

i love the the.
