Country Radio: Smart

So, some country radio stations decided to not play anything from the Dixie CHicks new album. This after pulling their music three years ago when, on the eve of the deadline and potential start of the Iraq crusade-um, War, Natalie maines said she was embarresed that the President was from Texas. She has the right to say what she wants, you have the right to not play or listen to their music, but how ignorant does it get. I mean, if you just don't like their msc that's fine, but good lord. At any rate, some stations and fans didn't want them played. They were trying, it seems, to attack their carrers because they spoke ill of the King. Did it work?

For the third time in their career, the Dixie Chicks roost on the top of The Billboard 200. The Columbia album "Taking the Long Way" tallied 526,000 copies in its first week of U.S. sales, according to Nielsen SoundScan

NOrmally, as most of you know I don't put any sort of credit into charts and things of that nature, but this time:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Now having said all that and to be fair, I'll say this:

I bought the new record and it's really good (Mormon Girl keep reading). I was really impressed, especially with the first 6 songs. These songs deal with the range of emotions and all the crap they dealt with since the comment. "Taking the long way" has a great melody and sets the "we don't care, we're doing it our way" tone for the whole album.

"Not ready to make nice", their little call to the ignorant to stick it up your ass. A lot of people were shocked they would put out this song and wondered why they couldn't just let it go. Why? You didn't? Trust me, if I got death threats for making an off-handed comment and I had a platform like this to express myself, the song wouldn't be called "I'm not ready to make nice". It would be called "I'm ready to come to your trailer, slap your grandmother, pour sugar in your gas tank, scratch your Toby Keith cd's and fuck your goat" (but it would swing, baby).

I think my favorite song right now is "Easy Silence". Something about this song just made me feel good. The protaganist tells their significant other that after a hectic and trying day. When it doesn't seem like they can get through it all "And everyone is running/ And I come to find a refuge in the/Easy silence that you make for me/ It's okay when there's nothing more to say to me/ And the peaceful quiet you create for me/ And the way you keep the world at bay for me/ The way you keep the world at bay. If a girl wrote a song like that for me, instant ring (more on that later).

So, overall the album is really good (It's got the Amanda seal of approval and she usually doesn't like music by women. Wait, she only likes music by women. And Jason Mraz, so yeah, only music by women.), but It's not really a country record. It wouldn't fit next to "Tequila makes her clothes fall off" (not even making that one up) or "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk" (wish I was making that up). It has some country flavor, but only in it has some traditional country instrumentation (Banjo, dobro, etc), but it's not overwhelming. So, country radio probably couldn;t play it, even if they weren't busy being the last vestiage of hope for our belabored King. It doesn't really fit into their extremly tight formatting. Which has gotten really bad over the years. I could go on and on, but you get my point.

Everyone has had their say, it's a great record, Country radio (not necessarily Country music) sucks. We're done.
